Great spot. Try the turkey sandwich and add avocado. Looking forward to trying more items. Unique, local and fresh. The popers are unique and taste great.

I take my friends and family here visiting when I want to impress them with local flare. Even though this is a New York style Café I still take pride that Utah can provide good culturally diverse restaurants. The popover sandwiches are out of this world good, so are the deviled egg and the calzone. Don't be afraid to take one of your old LP's to leave for the great nostalgic record collection they have for everyone to share.

What a wonderful little restaurant! Excellent service and great food. We had never eaten here before and asked the girl behind the counter what was good. She was very informed about their menu and easily gave us some recommendations. Not like other places where the employees don't really know their food. We also got to speak the owner and it was obvious that he takes pride in his work. He enthusiastically showed us the calzones so we could see their size. WOW! Huge and delicious looking/smelling. The food itself was great. I got the pulled pork pop-wich and my date got the Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was excellent! The pulled pork was okay, but being from the South I'm a bit picky. And the prices! Very reasonable! This is a fantastic little shop. I'll definitely be stopping by again.

My fiancé and I are lunch here today. I ordered the pizza, and although it had great sauce, my finance's blt blew both of us away. There is nothing quite like the bread they use, fresh, flakey and very flavorful. We loved it. Not really for big families because there isn't space for a larger party, but for a couple trying to look for a new place, this little dive is a great experience.

I think not. I had high expectations for this place. We had the Philly and Reuben. Both of us ( my wife and I) asked: where is the flavor. Both sandwiches were bland. My Reuben was cold inside, the drinks had no syrup and I had to salt down both sandwiches. The owners were pre- occupied- both when ordering and trying to pay. I will not be back and have concluded that others must be enamored with the concept of a New York Deli.

Cut to the Chase 3 Stars Came back because I enjoyed my previous experience and wanted to see if it was a fluke.....and more or less it was! For South Jordan this is a unique place because everything else around is more or less chains, but in general Pop on Over Cafe is just meh What was just as good as before: Cinnamon Pop over: Awesome I would recommend this but only FRESH. When it cools slightly the texture of the popover changes and becomes more brittle and hard. What Let me down: The service: Took WAYYYY too long to get our food almost 35-40 mintues Breakfast Pop Over (Green Chili, Egg, Cheddar on Asiago Popover: It was sooo good the first time, this time it was bland, watery/soggy and almost cold from sitting around I would guess. I would have sent it back but it probably would have taken hella days to get another one so I did not bother. New Ordered Options: Cheese Calzone. The good: Big portion size/Freshly Made The bad: Pricy/Took a long time to get Chocolate Covered Bacon: Average

YUMMY breakfast pop over. Stuffed with cheese, egg and bacon. The staff is friendly and amazing. Great cafe with awesome decor and fun jams playing in the background. Try the chocolate covered bacon. It was delicious. We can't wait to come back. Only downside, is that it's hidden in the back of a strip mall.

My husband and I were heading out for lunch and couldn't decide where to go when I thought, hey let's try that place we saw when we went to Saffron Valley. Little did I know that would be a great decision! We stopped in and the place didn't look busy which was fine with us since we were with our son and didn't know how much space there would be for him and a highchair or stroller. We checked out the menu and were greeted by the friendly staff. We ended up settling on the bacon mac and cheese for my husband and a roasted turkey popover for me. We got our drinks and secured a table where the stroller would fit. We were later told by the guy with no shoes that there was a highchair in the place that we could use. He even said it was his from back in the day which could be scary but hey, good to know for next time in case we don't have the stroller. The wait wasn't long before we got our food and everything was simply fabulous! The turkey was tasty and I enjoyed it being in a popover instead of on bread. I usually find there's just too much bread on a sandwich and this was a great option. The mac and cheese was SUPER cheesy and quite tasty. For me it would have been far too much to eat as a meal but my husband enjoyed it and said he felt perfectly full when we left. We both agreed we'd like to go back and try some of their other offerings. They even do breakfast all day which is great since we don't get going on weekends until late sometimes. They also sell some cool looking green chili sauces which I'd love to try with some chips. MMM! One thing to note is this place is in the BACK of the shopping area it's in. I'm sure the choice of location was more about affordability vs. being a good location because if we hadn't gone looking for parking for Saffron Valley we never would have even seen this place. I highly recommend making a stop here and trying this little gem out. I'd hate to see it go out of business because people don't know about it. The popovers are so fun and the people are super friendly! Go there and share with your friends.

We decided to give the Pop on Over Deli a try after reading positive reviews on Yelp. Truth be told, I can't recall a worse dining experience in Utah. The person who took our order (who also prepared our meal) was totally unfamiliar with the menu as he had to keep running to the prep table to get answers to very simple questions (i.e.: what type of bread they offer). The drink dispensers were not functioning properly, it took over 15 minutes to get our two sandwiches and when our sandwiches arrived, one of them had mustard instead of the mayo that was requested. Keep in mind the order taker made the sandwiches. I had brisket on wheat - the bread was extremely stale/hard and the 2-3 ounces of brisket was microwaved so many times that it was like eating beef jerky. Big changes will have to be made for us to ever try Pop on Over again.

I haven't had much of their food, but I'm giving them a vote of confidence for doing things differently. Here's to you POOC, for daring to dream and do it the way you want to. Pop On Over gets its name from the popovers they sell. To my knowledge, it's about the only place around here that you can get them. What's a popover? Well, it's like a bagel on the outside and an eggy french bread on the inside. It's shaped like a muffin and is mostly hollow. Just check out the biz pics and you'll see. Besides the pop over, you've got an assortment of deli items made in house. Salads, popover sandwiches (popwiches) and they also make a mean calzone and pizza. One of the major draws is actually the deviled eggs. With a lack of deviled eggs in SLC, these guys are doing a bunch of 'em every day. They even have a food challenge with them. More on that below. The space is long and deep, with deli fridge counter down the middle. There's not much seating, but enough to sit with some friends and chat. The walls are adorned with old vinyl records, and you can actually take one down and play it in the record player. They've got plenty more in a bin, too. The walls are also covered with photos from the owner's days as a movie chef. He worked doing craft services on set for years and now has a collection of photos with him and the celebrities he worked with. About those food challenges. Currently there are three: The Devil's Challenge Eat 12 deviled eggs of increasing spiciness. Two level ones, two level 2, two level 3, two level 4, and 4 level 5. It starts with cayenne pepper and goes up to Trinidad Scorpion peppers. Yowch, and no thanks. I have a wussy mouth! The 5lb Sandwich About what it sounds like. Only one champ so far, a 98 pound lady. Meat. Popovers. Condiments. Big huggin' sandwich. The Pizza Devil's Challenge Like the deviled egg one, it's a pizza with increasingly hot sauces. Sounds nuts to me, but people eat it up. Literally. The Roulette Pizza This isn't technically a challenge. More like a game. One slice of pizza holds a hidden slathering of super spicy sauce and you don't know it until you find it. Much respect for them for doing something in their own way. The office complex that was to be built here didn't end up being constructed (yet) so the location makes it tough for them. But it's worth the trip. Just a few doors north of Saffron Valley it's a cool little hangout. Oh, and whatever else happens, get the chocolate covered bacon for dessert. Yoooobetcha!

This place has amazing white pizza!! REAL white pizza, with fresh quality ingredients! The menu is fantastic with lots of yummy choices. Being from Chicago, we have been searching for truly good food here in Utah, which turned out to be harder to find than we thought... but we finally found it! This is a hidden gem with a very friendly and talented husband/wife team! If you're looking for quality food at a great price check this place out. Oh and the posole was to die for-the real deal. We will be regulars here.

I had never heard of this place. Then my friend said she wanted to go there for her birthday because she had heard it was so wonderful.I never question a birthday girl. I didn't know what to expect because I've never heard of a Popover. Then I could see a Popover and really thought to myself...well okay I'll try it but not too sure about this. I ordered the Philly Cheese and my friend ordered the Reuben. We split and shared. I took one bite and thought I had died and gone straight to heaven. I couldn't tell you what my favorite is. Amazing! When we finished they brought us a Cinnamon Sugar Popover. Again Amazing! To top it off this is a mom and pop shop. I don't know about you but I love the good old Mom and Pop. I started asking how this came about, where they were from, why they would come up with this and so many other questions. I'm a woman I can get away with that. Loved them. Got the whole story. If for nothing else you need to go in and meet these wonderful people. They have great food and an incredible story to share. Tucked back in a strip mall but worth looking for. I'll be going back several times.

Sooooooo Goooooood!!! Gave this place a try today and I was NOT disappointed!! I had a ham and cheddar pop over sandwich with a side of deviled eggs. The pop over was amazing and the ingredients were so fresh. The eggs were to die for. Just like Grandma used to make As I was completely immersed in my lunch I kept thinking about how I was going to try and slyly order a cinnamon sugar pop over without looking like a complete...well, for lack if a better work...pig. Let's just call a spade a spade. So, as I was mulling over how to sound casual in my ordering approach the owner slides a little surprise under my nose and says, "Here's a cinnamon sugar one to try." Are you kidding me? I'm in heaven!! I can't wait to go back.

I would have probably given a 4.25. ;) we were very happy with the food here! Must try a popover. It was my first time having one. So good! Pizza was excellent. Fun to have a sandwich in a popover. The Philly cheesesteak was not on a popover like I thought, but it was DELICIOUS. Would definitely go again!

I saw so many high ratings for this place that I decided I would finally give it a try. Giving it only one star is very harsh andd perhaps it was just what I ordered, but I did not like it at all. I tried an egg, ham and cheese popover from the breakfast menu. The scrambled eggs had the very undesirable brown to them comes from being burned a bit to the pan. Therefore they had the burnt taste to them and then they just seemed heavy and dry. It was awful. I feel awful writing this review because anyone who goes here can instantly gather that owner probably has some deep feelings for the place. I really would love them to succeed. My 1-star isn't an intent to sink there business, but just an honest assessment of the item I ordered.

Props to Jean for her review that lured me all the way to the south end of the valley. Ever bemoan the relative lack of unique places to eat around SLC? Do you find yourself awash in large national chains slinging low-quality meat on boring, styrofoam-flavored bread? Think of Pop on Over as the anti-Subway. The awesome starts with the bread. These popovers are dense, eggy, and brilliant as a platform for sandwiches. The two sandwiches I had over a two day period were on the asiago, which was very tasty. They also have a regular, a whole wheat, and will make you a garlic or an onion popover to order. Next comes the meats: they recommended the pulled pork on my first visit, and they were not wrong. It was tender, flavorful, and drenched in a red sauce that was spicy and delicious. I noticed that they sell the stuff in jars, so that gives you some indication of popularity. The second day, it was ham and swiss. The ham was delicious, as was my wife's turkey that I begged a few bites of. All of their meats are made in house, with some of them like the beef and pork roasting for many, many hours. Sides: I've tried the tuna salad, which was uncommonly good. But the real star here are the deviled eggs. They are creamy and made even better by a piece of shrimp on the top. The atmosphere is excellent. I can't recall a time that I've been made to feel more at home and treated so well in a cafe. Everybody there was friendly and went out of their way to talk to me about ingredients and their approach to food. Parting shot? Chocolate covered bacon. Excellent! If you're struggling to find the place, note that it's not in the strip mall that runs parallel to the main street. There's actually one that run perpendicular to it, and Pop on Over is at the end of the strip.

Love little local places like this that really deliver. Clever, cheap, and delicious. And it does feel like an NYC deli! :-) Had a turkey Reuben - outstanding. I think they make the turkey in house. Wasn't sure how the 'popover sandwich' thing was going to work, but it was just a little toasted and delicious out of the oven. Got some broccoli salad on the side, also really good. It was taking a little while and they brought me a cinnamon sugar popover while I was waiting (!). Both regular and diet Dr. Pepper in the soda fountain (always gets bonus points from me). Nice selection of vintage LPs to play while you hang out. (I went for the Beach Boys.) Unless you hate fun and awesomeness, go check this place out! Now!

Not as good as I thought it would be based on the reviews. I got the veggie popwich and it was just a bunch of mediocre vegetables stuffed in a tasteless cheese bread. The pasta salad that came with it was just a tiny portion of pasta and olives lightly flavored with a vinegar sauce. I had to use the vending machine when I got back to work just to give my taste buds some flavor.

I had the breakfast hatch green Chili pop over and some deviled eggs. The pop overs were greasy and barely palatable. The green chili is excellent. Buy a jar of the salsa. The deviled eggs weren't that good.

So, so, SO good. I've been coming to Pop On Over since I found them about a year ago on Google. Every time I come in, it's amazing. I've brought several friends. They all say it's amazing. Because it is. Amazing. The popovers are great and I've had many pop over sandwiches that I've really enjoyed at Pop On Over, but the best thing that I've had on the menu is the calzone. Especially, when it's stuffed with their ridiculously tasty green chile sauce. Depending on how hungry you are, you can get a massive calzone or one a bit more human sized, but either way, it'll be delicious. Seriously, get thee to the Pop on Over Cafe. You'll enjoy good food made by an experienced and talented chef.

Yeah, I'm gonna need to go back here. My son and I visited on a Monday at 9:30 a.m. and you could tell they had just barely opened. At first I thought maybe they didn't have any popovers, because there was nothing in the cases. Confusion set in, followed quickly by hanger (hunger + anger.) My kid and I gnawed at each other's wrists. Luckily, the owner (?) was there to save us from cannibalism. He offered us delicious popovers (and by offered, I mean I ordered them) and a grape juice. We shuffled out to the car, muttering "braaaains," but were distracted from chewing headcheese by the delicious aroma wafting from the bag. I handed my son a popover. I unwrapped my own. We looked at them, then looked at each other, hesitating. Then... we took a bite. And all our zombie/cannibal cravings went away forever. Now we are trying to bribe the husband/dad into taking us back. We need to try more than just plain popovers. Next...we need...SANDWICHES.

We had heard some great things about this fun cafe so we got a bunch of friends together and gave it a try. Most of us got the calzones and they were incredible not to mention ginormous! The owners were so fun and very interested in our opinion of the food. We loved chatting with them about the restaurant.

Incredible pop overs and pizza!! Visited today and Johnny (the owner) is from Brooklyn and made me the best NY pizza I've had in Utah. When I bit in and closed my eyes I was back in Chelsea (Manhattan)!! He and his wife were beyond sweet!! I wanted to put them in my pocket and take them home with me... But their pizza/ popover oven probably wouldn't fit in my other pocket so I'll have to visit them at the cafe...

We recently moved to Utah and have been searching for great pizza. We have found some great places that are a bit of a drive from our house, but nothing spectacular in South Jordan, until we found Pop on Over. This New York style pizza is the best pizza in South Jordan. We tried both their traditional and their white pizzas, and while both were delicious, I personally liked the traditional a little better. The crust is perfect in texture, sauce is fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the cheese is high-quality. Make sure you try a cinnamon sugar popover for desert...You will be hooked! We met the owners, who have cooked for some of Holllywood's top talent, and they are the nicest people around. Johnny is suffering from liver cancer, so please ask about the fundraising and donation opportunities if you are interested in paying forward a needed and welcomed gift of kindness to help pay for treatment. My only wish is that their hours were extended later into the evening and that they had delivery services during their business hours. Still, the pizza is good enough that we will be there often and will be willing to order for take-out rather than choosing one of the other neighborhood places that deliver. Try it, I think you will agree it is the best pizza in South Jordan.

This place is AWESOME!!! had a friend (Chuck, a regular over there) take me and a bunch of other friends during halftime of the Ohio game. I do not usually care for Deli type places, as you may notice from my profile, i do not checkin or review them like ever! But let me tell you, the food was awesome, the atmosphere amazing and the staff was just...uh words can't describe, i instantly fell in love with this place before i even had the food because of the staff, you can tell they really love what they are doing and know what they are doing. We had a few calzones of various varieties, and i don't say this about any specific food because i find most people use it too loosely, but it was clearly and easily THE BEST CALZONE I HAVE EVER HAD! we also had a cinnamon sugar "pop-over" which is essential a gargantuan muffin-shaped artisan roll that you can fill with different type of toppings, i am sorry if i am showing my naivety with that explanation, but i had not previously heard of a pop-over. They also offer tons of deli fare like: potato salad, coleslaw, salads, broccoli salad, and deviled eggs. Ooh if your into it they also offer chocolate covered bacon! BUT HERE IS WHAT SETS THEM APPART: they also offer a scrumptious selection of slow cooked meats including BRISKET!, pulled pork, chick, and Posole, plus I'm sure that have many others as just random daily specials. I seriously love this place, and i will for sure go again, and again, and again. The sad thing is that their location is terrible, it is tucked behind one of the many random strip mall complexes you run by on 106th, and you can't see it from the road, or access it without turning down a random side street, so i hope that they can attract enough attention to not have to worry about being an "impulse deli" and my though is that if you try it, you will go as far out of your way as you have to to sample their delectable delights!!!

My family stopped in tonight to try out this local legend. The food was astounding and the service was top notch. The restaurant features (among other things) a collection of vinyl records that anyone can play. The portions are HUGE!! A small calzone is enough for two people. Their mac and cheese could feed two or three kids. The pop overs were a bit of a surprise, and not as expected, but still good. Back to the service. In pretty sure it was the owner of the place serving us, and if not the staff are just as attentive as you'd expect an owner to be. They explained the menu, made suggestions, prepared or food with such high regard for quality. They discussed the history, and reason for the site and even discussed music and life lessons. It was a great experience and we well be back.

DELICIOUS POP OVERS!!! If you've never tried a pop over, you must! The idea of using it to make a sandwich is brilliant! Portion size is small though - you pay for the quality rather than quantity. It's worth it! Their cookies are home baked too - giant & delicious~! :)

I went back for the Sabrett hot dog (with loads of sauerkraut on it, natch). It did not disappoint! It's a large dog, and it had the satisfying snap as I bit into it. It's very comforting to know that I now have a dependable source for my East Coast-style dogs in Salt Lake City.

This deli has a very cool vibe. Listening to 103.5 during lunch is always fun. The layout can appear confusing at first. You place your order at the far end and then walk towards the door where you are given a glass to grab your drink. The food is brought to your table when ready and you can pay once you're done eating. The popovers are baked fresh daily. I've been here twice and on both occassions, I've opted for the Vegetarian Popwich. First time on garlic, and the second time on Asiago. The garlic is good but I liked the Asiago even better. I've had their deviled eggs for a side. The side portion includes two halves. The eggs are tasty but I found them to be a bit too creamy for my liking and felt it could have done with a little more heat. The desserts (cupcakes/eclair) are strategically placed such that your eye falls on them as you make your way to pay and it works! I can't seem to leave without ordering an eclair. It's a touch crispy, creamy and rich but not overly sweet. I know I'll be having it again the next time I'm there.

I liked trying something new, never having eaten a popover before, but it was pretty lack luster all around. I wish them the best, but I don't see myself going out of my way for a mostly crusty piece of bread sandwich. Chocolate covered bacon was only a figment of its potential greatness...

Let me tell you why this is my new favorite local eatery. Hidden near the end of an oddly-placed strip mall is a haven. A haven of great food, hot peppers and vinyl. The owner's personal record collection available for those of us who know what the Phono button is for on the 70's hi-fi. I didn't want to leave when I was done. I want to work here. If they had a couch I would try to sleep here. Kinks and live Talking heads while I waited for my Russian Roulette pizza took me back to the time before video killed the radio star. "What's a Russian Roulette Pizza?" the cook asked.... I explained it's a regular pizza with one unmarked hot-as-hell slice. The owner gave a devilish smile and said "no problem.. How hot do you want it?"..... a kindred spirit in pepper appreciation for sure. While I waited for my pizza, dogs and sandwiches for the office, I kept telling myself I WANT to like this place, PLEASE have good food. I don't mean 5 star fancy-ass expensive restaurant food, I mean /good/ food. The popover sandwich I sampled was divine. The Kobe hotdog, equally so. I wanted the hot slice of that pizza but someone beat me to it. I got the piece next to it and some of the pepper oil had made its way onto my slice which made me crave the heat even more. You can tell the owner is in heart and soul with this place. I will be back. *update* Glad to see my Russian Roulette pizza is now on the menu!!!

Great vibe at this place, and the food was great too. They do things their own way and this is refreshing in Utah. I had the calzone (which was huge) and a cinnamon & sugar pop over, because apparently I have a slight addiction to carbohydrates. Both items were fresh and delicious. I recommend checking this place out.

My office is a one minute walk from here so I come quite often. It's best to go after 1:00pm when it's not so busy, or just call ahead and they'll have it ready for you in minutes. The food is great, no complaints except I wish there were some healthier options. The owners are as nice as they come and the atmosphere is awesome. This is a unique place to eat of which this area needs more. My only complaint is that it's tough to find a meal that's healthy and under 700 calories.

Heard about this place and wanted to try it out for a while. It's a small deli-with a cosy / funky hipster feel to it. I gotta say tho that I really liked the Ruben sandwich. It was kinda off putting at first cuz the pop overs are huge but I finally smashed it to a manageable size and commenced to stuffing my gob joyously. They're the first deli that I've been to that actually put enough onions and tomatoes ( extra ) on my sandwich. It was pretty good. Do try the chocolate covered bacon....yum!!!!

  • Whitney C.

Yummo! I have never heard of a Pop Over before this but we were looking for a good deli sandwich that wasn't a chain on our way to Ikea. The other Yelp reviews made it sound intriguing so we took a chance. What a cool little place! It is in a weird strip mall type setting but don't be fooled by that. Once you enter, you are immediately immersed in an expansive record collection that decorates the walls and a record player at the back with stacks of records around it. You can choose a record to play while you are there and you can take the records off the wall to play too if you like. The pop over serves as the bread and you get to create your sandwich and choose your side. I chose a deviled egg since they were known for those and I don't think I've ever had one. One of the cool things is that you don't pay at the end of the order line, you pay after you eat. I found this cool as it felt like you could enjoy your time and then pay when you are done, not like they were just running you through the system, taking your money, and then showing you the door. The sandwich was AMAZING. Tasted like a good local deli, the meat was fresh and sliced in house and the salt and pepper was perfect seasoning. We loved it here and will definitely go back.

If you don't enjoy a meal here "it's you, not them". Great people and great food! Pizza, calzones, popovers, mac & cheese, soups, chocolate covered bacon, something for everyone... Try it tonight!

Great food, atmosphere, and staff. The popovers are light and delicious and make for great sand... er... popwiches! I've been looking for a good deli ever since I moved out here. Next time I want to try the kobe beef hot dogs. What I won't be trying are the Stupid Hot Deviled Eggs! Extra hot was plenty spicy for me! I will definitely be coming back. Let's make this hidden gem not so hidden anymore!

Pop on Over is a wonderful place to eat! The staff is warm and makes the best hand tossed NY style pizza in the valley. The pop-over sandwich "popwich" is always a great choice! I never leave without a chocolate covered bacon order for desert! Eat here, as it's a hidden gem!

What an amazing find! This is a delicious little deli that's tucked away in the back of a strip mall. It's a little tricky to find as you can't see it from the street, but it is well worth the search. Everything about this place rocks! It's all based around their pop overs which are officially now my favorite thing ever. Imagine if a bagel and a croissant had a baby. Now add even more deliciousness to the mix. That's a pop over. The staff are super friendly and the place is decorated in old record slips. Plus they have a record player and a great selection of records that you are free to throw on. Definitly give it a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Best place for original amazing food. I read the reviews and thought I had to try it. I wasn't disappointed at all!! The Mac and cheese is the best I have EVER had!! The owner is the nicest guy and they make your lunch so enjoyable. I will become a regular there for sure.

The Pop Over sandwiches are good. We had the Turkey and Turkey Pastrami. There were only 2 people in line in front of us when we got there and it took them about 25 minutes to get our to go order which was only two sandwiches so plan on being there a while. Avoid the eclairs. They were really bad and tasted like they had been sitting there for a couple days.

Finally found a real, family owned business that cares about it's food just as much as the customers. Since moving out to Utah from Brooklyn over a year ago, I nearly gave up trying to find a decent lunch. Everything was chain food garbage....the bigger the soda and sweeter the sandwich, the better. It's like all these places are catering to kids. Pop on Over is different, and you can tell right when you walk in. Johnny ( I know his name and he knows mine) makes everything in house and is fresh, even the hot sauce is homemade. The popover sandwiches are great and I highly recommend the pulled pork, which is tangy and spicy, and NOT sweet. Deviled eggs are also nice, and he will top it with as hot a sauce as you can take. He makes a great little personal pizza which is probably the best NY style pie I have had out here. His collection of vinyl records is cool (all 60's-70's) and you are free to put on whatever you want; which goes along with the easygoing nature of the whole place. Definitely worth checking out if you even remotely care about the food you eat and how it's made, this place is the tops. -Alex

Items bought - Reuben signature sandwich ($8) and macaroni Conclusion - I like. I want more. I'll be backz First time here for lunch. It's weirdly retro in here and they got all these pictures in here with signatures to portray some sort of history? Whatever, I'll vibe with it cause they got matching music playing in the background The service was pretty slow for the lunch hour but that was the general concensus among me and my friends - that we would be waiting. I got the Reuben and it was way worth the wait. The entire sandwich was as tall as my first but about 1/3 of the volume compressed down cause the sandwich was so lightweight and flaky. I've had plenty of Reuben's and they all differ based on sauce and bread. And this place did it right. Composed of sauerkraut, cheese, sauce and meat, this $8 sandwich was well worth the wait. My friends got the macaroni and loved it

I don't understand all the great reviews about the food in this place. I went with my wife and kids and tried all the dishes people said were good... and they were all just ok. The service was good, the music was fantastic, but I have definitely experienced much better food in this area.

Pros: 1. I enjoy watching my pizza crust being tossed, I don't know why but I do:) 2. Very friendly staff. 3. Styrofoam cups for fountain soda. And yes I know they aren't environmentally friendly. My ice doesn't melt as much so my coke tastes like coke instead of coke water. 4. Fast service: 7 minutes for a made to order calzone. 5. Canned mushrooms! I'm not a fan of fresh ones! 6. Huge portion! See pic 7. Music-great selection and not too loud! 8. Front of the house was clean. Cons: 1. Deli cases are virtually empty, see pics. If they aren't going to be stocked, they should be removed. 2. I don't like people touching my fountain drink lid. The system they have for lid storage forces you to touch the bottom of the next persons lid. 3. Female worker rubbed her nose with the palm of her hand and then went back to making a sandwich. She continually drank her coffee and rubbed her face without washing her hands. 4. No gloves. 5. Behind the counter could use a good cleaning. 6. Too many mushrooms and not enough ham or cheese. Probably related to the cost of each but too many mushrooms are overpowering. The food overall was ok. I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here again but if I was in the area the food is satisfying enough I would come again. However, the sanitation practices of the female worker, drink lid storage, and lack of gloves will keep me from ever coming back. And did I mention the very long hair of the female employee that was pulled FORWARD over her shoulder and hanging down in front of her. If she had made my food instead of the male I would not have eaten it. Customer service and adequate tasting food are the reason for the 2 stars.

The staff was friendly and very helpful in explaining the menu. I had the New York style pepperoni pizza and it was pretty good, nothing out of this world, but tasty all the same. I also tried a cinnamon and sugar pop over. It was pretty authentic and very tasty. You can also get pop overs filled with sandwich stuff. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. 6 or 7 bucks for lunch. It was a cozy little restaurant and I'll definitely come back and try some more stuff.

This is a small little place tucked away in the back of a bunch of businesses. The walls are lined with album covers and pictures of famous people. The lady that was there seemed a little bothered, but was overall pretty nice. We got a turkey popwich and a reuben popwich with potato salad, and deviled eggs. We also splurged and got a cinnamon sugar popover. Turkey popwich - turkey, cheese, onions, pickles, and a mustard sauce on an asiago popwich. The flavor was really good and I would definitely get it again. If you don't like mustard though let them know because it has a lot of mustard. Reuben - typical reuben on a popwich. The cole slaw was more like steamed cabbage which I didn't care for but my husband liked it. Potato salad - small cup (like the ones you put sauces in) of very bland potato salad that was room temperature Deviled eggs - room temperature, flavorless eggs. It seemed that they had been made a couple days earlier and had been sitting in the display case for quite a while. Cinnamon sugar popover - it really tastes like a german pancake with butter, cinnamon and sugar goodness. I would come back and get the turkey popwich and the cinnamon sugar popover. The other things I could do without.

Not really a cafe is it? I would say more pizza/sandwich shop. With that said, my hunger was satisfied after I ate my sandwich. I did have some complaints though. I ordered a pop over Rueben. I've never had any kind of pop over sandwich so I wasn't able to pre-qualify my selection. If I did it over, I would order a sandwich that had less wet elements because the bread does not hold up. It was a mess, just falling apart everywhere. Where the mustard touched the bread, it turned to a soup like consistency. I will say, however, that the meat was nice and the crust of the pop over was appealing where it wasn't melting away. I got a 4oz portion cup of potato salad with some pretty firm potatoes. Nothing special. Someone else got a devilled egg (level 4) and we all took turns burning our faces off. We had a good time, but I don't feel the urge to return anytime soon. They also have pizza, which smelled nice, but we didn't order any.

Got the turkey pop over: surprisingly delicious, filling, and not your typical processed deli meat. Pulled turkey on a traditional light & flaky pop over bread. Sort of a tucked location but had good service and cute decor. Free WiFi

The Popover sandwiches are packed with delicious meat & cheese & mayo; you can tell the bread is baked fresh, and it is light & crispy & delicious; and the house-cured meats are amazing! There are many places around Salt Lake where you can get pastrami (pastrami by itself, pastrami on burgers, pastrami on everything). The pastrami I got on my popover sandwich was perhaps the best I have eaten in all my days. (Also, it's worth noting in my pastrami reviewing, that I'm mostly vegetarian, by which I mean to say that this meat was especially good despite my limited experience. Furthermore, I would go back to this restaurant for veggie options--many cheese a/o vegetarian options in calzones, pizzas, sandwiches. Only minor criticisms, which may been based on the day I visited: -a bit too much mayo; I'll ask for 'light mayo' on my next visit -deviled eggs maybe a bit over-hyped (in that the flavor didn't do too much for me); I did ask for 4 out of 5 heat level, so it was basically inedible because of the heat, but I did my damndest nonetheless Can't wait to try Pop on Over Cafe again the next time I'm in out near Draper...which unfortunately will not be for quite a while.

This place was pretty disappointing considering the rating. It had a couple hits, but just as many misses. First, the good: I thought the pop overs were really good. Same goes for the spicy deviled eggs. The youngsters had a pizza and I thought that was pretty good too; it had tasty cheese and the crust had a nice chewy/crispy ratio. Now, the bad: I thought the two sandwiches that we tried were not good at all. The Philly was way too messy, watery (the bottom of it was really soggy), and it had absolutely no flavor... at all. It was pretty bad. The Reuben wasn't much better. While the meat was better than the Philly meat, the sauerkraut had huge chunks in it, which was weird, and overall, the flavor was pretty blah. To make matters worse, the sides were no better. My broccoli salad was dry and my wife indicated her pasta salad was bland. Even the chocolate-covered bacon was a little off. The space is unique and inviting in its own way but the food just didn't make me want to return. Perhaps I'm missing something...

Finding decent pizza in Utah is like finding a Jewish synagogue in Provo. Sure they may be there, but they're not easy to find. We hit the jackpot today by stumbling into the Pop on Over Cafe. Not only was the pizza incredible. So good. Great crust. Great sauce. The staff was friendly, helpful and fun to interact with. To top it off, there are crates full of classic vinyl to dig thru and play like your own private juke box. I've been waiting for a place like this for years. Do yourself a favor and get on over and try the best damn pizza in Utah!

My sister and I wandered in when we got the times wrong for the food truck round up at Mulligans. We needed a place to eat and this was the closest restaurant. I really enjoyed my experience here! I ordered the mac and cheese and it was really tasty and filling. The portion was generous for the price and it came with a popover. The service was 5 stars! The employee working when we visited was very helpful, attentive, and patient with our rambunctious kids.

Stopped by today because of the reviews that I read on yelp. I'm happy that I did. Finding quality local places to eat seems to be much more of a challenge here in SLC then in Tucson where I moved from. The pop overs smelled wonderful, alas I did not try them but they look delicious. I had deviled eggs and a broccoli salad. It was wonderful and the right amount of food. The atmosphere is good and the staff is friendly. I might even go back again today.

My brother in-law said this place was tasty but "tasty" does not even come close to doing this place justice. WoW! Well done guys......well done! I love the uniqueness and small deli feel. Went with a Pop-wich: Roasted Turkey, bacon, avocado with swiss cheese on the asiago popover. Yummy! For dessert our table shared the cinnamon sugar popover honestly i wanted to eat the whole thing myself it was that good! Needless to say the prices are very reasonable, the ambiance is great and the food was AMAZING! This place will definitely be a must every time i come into town.

Well... this was a weird experience. The one girl working the entire counter was kind of awkward and unsociable. It took a long time for us to get our Reuben pop overs even though we were the only customers in the place. And the Reuben itself? Well... It may have been a Reuben but in the three bites it took to finish it it is debatable. And those three bites were bland. Sauerkraut wasn't sour, Thousand Island dressing practically non-existent. You get a pickle spear and a "side dish" with your pop over. The side dish comes in a cup normally used to serve up sauces with French fries. For over $7 we left hungry and unsatisfied. Maybe the pizza and calzones are worth the price and experience, but we won't be back to find out.

After seeing all the great reviews on Yelp, I was pretty excited to try this place. The food was okay (I had the ruben) and overpriced (I went across the street to get a large fry since I was still hungry). Nothing special here in my opinion. Also, they burned my popover.

Full disclosure, Yelp limits us to Five Stars on our reviews, if it were not for the limit I would have given the Pop Over Cafe Ten Stars!! OK, first the bad, well theres .... nope, I got NOTHING, this place is perfect!!! Now the good, nay the great!! When you walk in the door you will immediately feel at home, Johnny the owner and his wife will greet you and answer any questions that you may have about the menu and then it is up to you. My wife, our daughter, and I sampled as much as we could in one visit and EVERYTHING was awesome!!! For starters you have to try the Deviled Eggs, you can get them regular or spicy, tried them both and loved them both. My wife ordered a Turkey Sandwich on the Popwhich Rolls, my daughter ordered the Turkey Sandwich on the Popwich Roll as well but she added Avocado, and I ordered the Mac Over 4 Cheeses and everything that we ordered just blew us away!! My daughter said the avocado was the freshest she has ever had, both my wife and daughter commented on the fresh, chunks of turkey on the Popwich, none of the sliced, processed sandwich meat you get at most places, this was fresh like making a turkey sandwich at home the day after thanksgiving!!! Oh ya, the Popwich Rolls are so freaking good, they are light and flakey and delicious. Oh and the Mac Over 4 Cheeses was only the best Mac and Cheese that I have ever had. After that we tried a pizza and as you might expect from the theme of this review it was great, so fresh, such good flavor. Better then the Pie and tied with Este Pizza for the best pizza in Salt Lake. You will notice that there are records everywhere when you walk in the door, yes vinyl just like the good old days, there is also a turntable in the back and if you find an album you want to listen to you put it on the turntable and drift back in time. I will be the Duke of the Pop on Over Cafe so if you swing by and there is a guy sitting close to the turntable with a big smile on his face that would be me, Pop on Over and say hi!! This is as good as it gets, this is a locally owned family joint that must be visited often before the world becomes nothing but cookie cutter chain restaurants that all taste the same. Great food, CHECK ........... Family owned, CHECK ............ Great atmosphere, CHECK!!! Can't wait to go back, heck, I can't wait to move in!!!!! Until next time my fellow Yelpers ..................... Be Local, Live Local, and whenever you can ................ BUY Local!!!

Very good pizza from these guys! Maybe the best I've had in the area. We stopped in by accident after an appointment a few doors down. It was certainly a pleasant discovery. I can't wait to go back and try a popover. Give them a try. You won't regret it.

Reading all the five star reviews made me wonder if they were real, paid for, made up?? This is not a 5 star place - by any stretch. I stopped in. First, the people were kind and you could tell they really cared about their reputation. The food is so-so. The famous pop-over they sell is really not that good. It's not that pop-overs are not good - it's that their pop-over is just not that good. It's okay but not great. The food is made to order and takes a bit to get to you. They sell a "Sabrett Kobe Beef Hot Dog" for $3.50. Sabrett doesn't make a Kobe Beef hot dog so that was a red flag for me. My experience was that this place was fine but I get the sense it is paying for hype that isn't real. I think they'd do better to work on the food and convenience than on getting people to do five star reviews that are questionable.

Words cannot express how much I love this place, but I'll try anyway. POC is a small deli-style restaurant with a heart of gold. Owners Johnny and Shaleen have crafted a number of unique and tasty spins on traditional deli/diner fare. Turkey mac & cheese, green chili lasagna, pop-wich sandwiches, spicy deviled eggs... there is so much to love here. To top it off (literally and figuratively), Johnny makes his own chili sauces. His green chili salsa is 50 cents extra, but adding it to your Pop-wich is worth every penny--it is to die for. I love it so much, in fact, that I'd consider bathing in it. He uses genuine Hatch chilis in his recipes, and they are legendary for a reason. The only downside is the location. Because it is off the road a bit, it can be very tricky to find. The first time I came here, I almost left thinking they had closed down. The building next door also has a Suite 110 and it was vacant; as I was driving around the building on my way out, I miraculously happened to glance over and saw POC in the other building. Thank goodness! Because of this, I don't try and tell people where this place is--I bring them here with me for their first visit. This is a great, great place.

Was plesantly surprised by this place, I had the green Chile lasagna and it was delicious my meal came with a side salad and a pop over which was so amazing. The people that worked their were super friendly and you could tell they put alot of effort into each meal. Will defiantly be returning to try the pizza or callazone.

The Cafe is a nice locally owned place to grab pretty comfortable food unique to the area. The 4 cheese mac and cheese with bacon is pretty darn tasty, and comes with a popover, which is also delish. I rather liked the chocolate bacon, and the calzone is well done and one of the better in the salt lake area. I love the deviled eggs as well. It's an unpretentious place to feel like a "local" and get some good eats. Not paid for this review, I live a short distance away and it's one of my go to places for an enjoyable sit down.

There is only one thing you need to order here when you go: a Popwich. What is a popwich you ask? Well I'm glad you asked: A popover is a type of sandwich bread usually baked in a muffin tin. It is allowed to swell or "pop" over the top of the muffin tin while it bakes. And, a popwich is self-explanatory from that point. I ordered the pulled pork popwich with provolone and swiss cheese. It was a really good popwich as the meats were succulent and the veggies were fresh. They make it right in front of you so, you are guaranteed freshness. I like their staff as everyone makes you seem like part of the family, it even has a family oriented atmosphere to the restaurant. I would come here again because of the staff and food

Just when you think you've had the very best Pop On Over has to offer - I have to go and try their Philly Cheesesteak. I *thought* I'd already found the best Philly in South Jordan. I was mistaken. It's here. IT'S HERE, I tell you! I don't know what they do differently to make their Philly *the very best* I've ever tried, but I'm still thinking about it a full 36 hours later. And I cannot say that for any other Philly. As we rocked out to Uriah Heap (oh yeah) I tried their Ghost Pepper Deviled Eggs - levels three and four (out of five). They were all very tasty, but the level three didn't provide as much heat as I anticipated. The level four was quite a bit hotter, but I'm pretty certain that I'm trying the level five on my next visit. I'm now seriously considering giving the Devil's Egg Challenge a go. The boys at Pop On Over have added a couple of new competitions to their challenge repertoire. First, the Five-Pound Challenge - a full five pounds of fully loaded popwiches complete with sides. You must eat it ALL in 60 minutes. I would never attempt this one. Then, the Pizza Devil's Challenge - eat a 10-slice pizza in 30 minutes. Sounds relatively harmless, right? Here's the rub: the slices range from heat level one through five. And you don't know which is which. Oh, also, you can have nothing to drink during and for 10 minutes after (just like the Devil's Egg Challenge). Medic! Thanks, guys, for letting us try your Sabretts Kraut Dog! It really was so good - and I'm not usually a fan of hot dogs. If you're a weiner lover, this is a beautiful weiner. Do not miss the sauerkraut on top. Sehr gut! Their line of Brooklyn sodas in the case are delish! I tried the Root Beer. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but I'd also recommend these sodas. Flavor is outstanding. I'll just say this - go here, order whatever looks/sounds good to you, and you will be happy. If you're not, make a doctor appointment and get checked immediately. You need help.

Immediately welcomed by the aroma of freshly baked popovers. Had the roasted turkey pop-wich the first time I went and loved how fresh everything was. The turkey was moist- which is pretty rare and the popover was perfectly crisp on the outside and the inside was soft and fluffy. Have also tried their BLT and it was delicious, loved the bacon. The last time I went I was somewhat disappointed- had their roast turkey pop-wich but this time the turkey was alright and kind of dry. My friend got the mac-n-cheese and it was a little too heavy. The cheese was overwhelming which made the dish extremely heavy. Will still go back, hopefully that was just an "off" day!

I have had this place booked marked in Yelp for awhile now, unfortunately they are out of the way for me so it took too long to get here. I really wanted to try their popover sandwiches so as I walked in the door I noted a sign highlighting their Philly Cheese Steak. I asked if the Philly came on a popover and was told it normally comes on a hoagie style bun but they would make it however I liked. I ordered the Philly on a regular popover with no vegetables, I was then asked what side most were salads of some sort but they had the option for deviled egg so I went with that. My sandwich took five or so minutes to make and came to the table. I quickly noticed that the sandwich had the veggies I asked to be left off but the meat to veg ratio was such that I was fine pushing the veggies aside. The steak was chunks of well seasoned tender meat and was extremely tasty. The popover was crunchy on the outside and soft and eggy on the inside making for a very good nontraditional Philly Cheese Steak. The sides, as mentioned none where what I expected or wanted but I typically like deviled eggs. My eggs were very bland, they were really needing a hit of vinegar or mustard to give them some flavor. Later I noticed they had spiced deviled eggs, they were not offered as a side for my sammy but I will try for them next time otherwise skip the side all together. Food very good (sandwich anyway), service good, music very good, atmosphere good, I will have to make the trek to visit them again. I noted some signs that said they featured award winning Chili Verde, I may try that sometime. Unfortunately, this time I was set on a Popover sandwich. I have not seen other reviews that mentioned the verde hopefully some will get posted giving me some help with my menu choice next time.

I can't say they did anything wrong, it is just that if you name your restaurant "Pop over Cafe" then the pop over sandwich should excite me as much as the idea dos that brought me in.

I went here for lunch and really enjoyed it. Had the Turkey Pastrami Pop-over special and it was delicious. I tried the deviled eggs and thought they were okay, but not the best. The chocolate covered bacon was something new and fun. I also liked going through the records and picking out some music. Great lunch place and I plan on going back soon.

I would easily give this place 4 or 5 stars! Super fun atmosphere and really tasty food. The 12" Calzone was HUGE and perfect (Could easily feed two). The lady who took our order recommended the mac n' cheese--which was divine! Definitely not from a box, on any count. The owner is straight from NYC and it's a little family joint, so you won't go wrong supporting them. Super nice, friendly people and tons of vinyl records and music that you can ask to throw on the sound system. Overall, definitely a big food win in the SLC valley!

The owner of the Pop On Over Cafe stole my record collection! Where else can you eat incredible grub while listening to classic vinyl? On my first visit, I picked The Doors 'Soft Parade' to compliment my wonderful veggie 'pop-wich'. (pic) Note the fantastic bread, hefty fillings, and copious amounts of avocado. And the next time you have a chance, note the brilliance of 'Shaman's Blues' and 'Tell All the People' on the above mentioned album. The sandwich was so good, i went back the very next morning for a breakfast 'pop-wich' of egg, cheese, and Hatch peppers. I asked for bacon to be added. It was great. So was the Carly Simon LP I choose for ambiance. It was the one with the cover where she is wearing that floppy hat, and her blue shirt perfectly displays her cute little 'points'. I digress... I've also tried a couple of 'stupid hot' deviled eggs, and I'm already addicted to these delightful ovum. I bet I could handle their 'Devil's Challenge' and get my cartoon icon hung on the wall! Next time, I'll be trying what Jean W. says is 'The Very Best' Philly Cheesesteak she has ever had. Or maybe the Rueben with a cup of Posole. I definitely wanna try the pizza. I'll have to get their mac and cheese with bacon, which looked incredible. OK, so I want all of it. Why, oh why, would anyone go to a Jimmie John's or a Subway when this place is in the vicinity? These fully stuffed sandwiches put those junior leaguers to shame. Utterly unique in every way, the Pop On Over Cafe appears to be a nearly five star establishment.

What a charming little place, and in the heart of South Jordan, no less. Had lunch at Pop on Over Cafe today, and you can add me to the list of fans. PoOC is like a little highway stop in atmosphere, but without the truckers. The place is decorated with classic rock and folk record albums, which is a big plus, and features photos of those who have survived their food challenges. I will not be going on that wall, incidentally. I looked up popover on the Internet, and it's sort of a muffin/puff pastry prepared with egg batter and baked in a muffin tin. The result is hollow in the center and can be stuffed, and stuff them they do! I had the lasagna, with popover and side salad. My mom had the egg salad popover sandwich. Both were quite delicious. The lasagna was fresh-tasting and very meaty. Mom's egg salad filling was creamy, and the popover served as great "bread". The only complaint I would lodge is that iceberg lettuce is used as the "greens" in the side salad, hopefully they will switch to real greens one day. All the while we ate, we listened to a Styx album that I Had chosen. How cool is that? By the way, the owners of the place, who also work behind the counter, were very friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to break the 5-star streak for Pop on Over Cafe. The experience is as good as others have suggested, but the food just doesn't get to 5 stars. As others have said, this is a NY pizzeria / popover restaurant with a cool vibe. 33's line the wall, and a record collection stands waiting for you to peruse and choose from for your own dining experience. The staff is very friendly and carefully explained the menu items -- including their spicy challenge (a dozen devilled eggs -- 2 each on spice levels 1-4 and 4 level 5, no drink during or 10 minutes after), and their popovers: "kind of a cross between a bagel and a croissant." An apt description, except maybe I'd say the taste of a croissant, the outer texture of a bagel, the inner texture of cake batter (eggy, eggy, gooey deliciousness) but hollow. Because I pride myself on my devilled eggs, and I heard that this place was the shiz-nit for them, we ordered 4 eggs -- 2 with shrimp and 2 with level 4 sauce. I got a brisket popover sandwich with broccoli salad and the wife got mac & cheese. The eggs were very good, but very creamy--perhaps mayo and maybe even a little cream or cream cheese in them. The shrimp was a nice touch (I think I may try mini shrimps on half of my eggs in the future) but didn't make up for an egg that was perhaps a little bland. The spicy eggs, though, were quite good. The #4 sauce was quite hot (that good, mellow hot that comes at you all of a sudden) but was also full of dark, complex, smoky flavor (maybe hot real Hungarian paprika + maybe habaneros?) I was a little surprised that the hot eggs were just the same creamy eggs with the requisite level of hot sauce on them, which made them even runnier to eat. Tasty. The popovers are great. Eggy, crispy, and great as a side bread or as a sandwich outsides. I think they'd be great alternative breakfast pastries for an office sick of donuts or those awful things Einstein calls bagels. My brisket sandwich was good, not out of this world. "Pulled" brisket with a savory smoky barbecue flavor (though no discernable bbq sauce). The wife thought it was the most special thing we ate. The wife's bacon mac & cheese was also really good. Huge chunks of bacon swam in a sea of very gooey cheese sauce, topped by potato chips and a sharper, harder cheese. It was very comforting, but I thought the cheese sauce tasted a little too much like Velveeta (not that there's anything wrong with that....). I think POOC is a great "anti-Subway" as Ryan C. called it. I'd be happy to put it in my lunch rotation (if I didn't care about calories at all). And I want to go back to try a pizza -- particularly the Russian Roulette pizza James L. spoke of (and is now on the menu!) But I'm not sure I'd ever get off at the South Jordan Parkway if I were merely driving by. Very good food and great atmosphere, but just not quite 5 star worthy.

Simply delicious. Their Philly cheesesteak is out of this world. The pop overs are really good too. I like the atmosphere and staff is friendly.
